What I’ve Been Up To + Poll!

Hello, lovely friends! πŸ™‚

I know there’s been a bit of a gap in posting, but this is in keeping with my new plan of “quality over quantity”. πŸ™‚ Also, there will probably be more frequent posts after March, since then my 4-H season is over.

Today I just wanted to show y’all some projects that I’ve been working on, and although some of them are non-doll related, I’m super excited to share! πŸ™‚

First up, I’ve been working on this metallic, chainmaille-esque crocheted shawl (it’s the ever-popular Virus Shawl pattern, in case you’re wondering πŸ™‚ )!

Here it was as a ‘lil munchkinΒ shawl:

(Also, shameless plug for my Instagram πŸ˜‰ )

Aaaand here it is finished (in the obligatory arm-span pose πŸ˜‰ )!

What do you all think? I am officially a huge fan of this pattern…and I’ll definitely be using it for more shawls in the future.

Next up, I recently had my first venture into (dun-dundun!!!) doll repainting!

Well, technically I didn’tΒ repaint a doll, per say. I guess I just added to a doll. πŸ˜‰ I’ve always been a big fan of Monster High’s Scarah Screams character’s fantastic retro style, the fact that she’s Irish (!!!!) and her flippy dark hair (Laura Petrie from the Dick Van Dyke Show, anyone? πŸ˜‰ ), but there’s one thing.

She has no eyes. I realize that this is part of her character, but it’s a bit much for me. So after seeing Tiffany Bliss’s fantastic videoΒ on how she added eyes to her Scarah, without completely removing the paint and starting over, I thought to myself, “Hey, I could do that!” πŸ˜‰

Aaaand I did! And I think that for the most part, it worked! I used acrylic paint and a really thin paintbrush, along with some toothpicks, and just added to her existing paint….and now I really, really like her! I know she’s not perfect, but I feel like I can much better appreciate her retro styleΒ now that she has eyes. πŸ˜‰

And about that secret Disney doll project...well, I still can’t share much more, but just know that it’s deepΒ in the works… πŸ˜‰ Β I’m ridiculously excited to show you guys…but because this is by far the most in-depth project I’ve ever done, it’s taking up about 99% of my hobby time. So, while I am sorry that I’m leaving you all hanging so much in terms of frequent posts, just know that it’s leading up to something huge that I can’t wait for you all to see!! πŸ˜€

Oh, and to the wonderfulΒ folks who have nominated me for blog awards….thank you so much, lovelies! πŸ™‚ I promise I’ll get to it ASAP! πŸ™‚

Finally, I have a little poll for you. I’ve been planning out some more crafty-type videos for when I get time, and I’d love to hear which sort you all would most like to see. Just lemme know! πŸ˜‰

I hope you all enjoyed this mash-up post! πŸ™‚ It might be a while ’till I post again, but when I do, I’ll probably have something big to show you!

  1. Your shawl turned out amazing! It makes me want to try the Virus Shawl pattern, it’s always in the popular patterns on Ravelry but I haven’t felt inspired to make it until after seeing yours. It does look like chain mail! πŸ˜€ Your doll repaint is fantastic, I’ve been too afraid to attempt anything like that haha. πŸ™‚

  2. Scarah with eyes looks so much like me it’s creepy! And you made them green! Even my hair (though it’s a different cut) used to look, and often does, a lot like hers. I noticed the resemblance when she first came out and photoshopped some eyes and slimmed the upper lip on a picture, but this is different. I always said if only they hadn’t made her green (like literally, if she’d been any other colour) I would have had some fun making a “me” doll out of her…
And wow, do I love your shawl! Can you crochet a skull shawl too?

    1. Wow! That’s crazy! πŸ˜€ I remember when the Barbie redhead MTM doll came out, I freaked out because the hair, the eyes, the freckles…everything looked like me! I guess it’s sort of like when you draw a flower from your own imagination then find out that there’s a flower like that in real life. πŸ™‚

  3. Awesome as usual! I absolutely adore your talents in crocheting- i still have the slightest clue in putting a thread in a needle to be honest! Scarah looks gorgeous with eyes, her pupil-less eyeballs made it rather hard to connect to her character which I feel really bad in saying XD
The excitement that’s going around the disney princess project is killing me- I hope its all revealed soon AHH!

    Keep being you,

    1. Awww thank you so so so much Cosmic! πŸ™‚ ❀ You are so encouraging. I totally agree about Scarah…I really wanted to like her, but she was just hard to connect with. πŸ™‚ Thank you so much as always for your encouragement! πŸ™‚ ❀
