Some Unexpected Visitors and Christmas Shopping~a Doll Blog part 1

Hey, everyone! 😀 This is Holly O’Hair (one of Grace’s Ever After High Dolls)!  Grace is going to be busy with her family for the next week or so, with Christmas and everything, so I’m going to be taking over the blogging temporarily! 😀  I’m so excited!

Today, we had a rather odd, yet fun, but still very unexpected visitor! We were waiting for Grace to get ready to go shopping so that we could find some presents for each other, and I was fiddling with my hair.  Grace’s mom had set out some boxes of Christmas decorations and stuff in the studio.

Suddenly, we heard a rattling inside the box, and a big push!

The lid busted open and the most curious little man, or rather, boy, popped out like a jack-in-the-box!

“Buddy the Elf, what’s your favorite color??” he said brightly (and randomly).

“Um, hi?” I ventured. Then I smiled. “And, pink.” He grinned back.

“I’m Buddy.  My friends and I come out every year to decorate Grace’s house.  You’re new, aren’t you?  You weren’t here last year.” his voice was tiny and fast.

“Well, no,” I admitted.  “Grace just got into doll collecting this year.”

“That’s okay!” He exclaimed. “The more, the merrier!  Come on out, Jovie!” As he said this last sentence, more rattling took place in the box.

To our astonishment, another little elf popped out!

“I’m Jovie,” the elf stated excitedly.  I noted that Jovie was a girl…she had longer eyelashes than Buddy, and she sported a pink circle skirt over her sweater.

“I’m so sorry we’re late,” Buddy said apologetically.

“Late?” Blondie looked at him blankly.

“Oooooh, you must not know about the Elf on the Shelf tradition, this being your first year here and all,” Jovie smiled.  “Well, we’ll tell you!”

We all plopped down on the rug, and Buddy explained that the Elves come out every year to watch children and make sure that they’re being good.

“Grace and her brothers are older now, so it’s not too hard to watch them,” winked Jovie.  “We’re supposed to arrive on December 1st, but Grace’s parents didn’t get to it, and we figured Grace wouldn’t need much watching, anyway.”

“But,” Buddy changed the subject. “We don’t know your names!”  I blushed.

“I’m Holly,” I introduced myself.  “Holly O’Hair.  These are my friends, Blondie, Dexter, Rochelle, Gigi, and Operetta.”  I was afraid that our new friends would have a hard time remembering all of the names, but somehow, they got them all on the first try!  Maybe it was part of their elf magic. 😛

“Well!”  Buddy looked around the room for the first time.  “You all look very festive!” I looked down and laughed.  It was true!  We all had on our Christmas sweaters and outfits that Grace had made us and the table above us was covered in fake snow and decorations.

“We were about to go do some Christmas shopping,” Blondie piped up.  “Would you like to join us?”

“Thanks, but we’d better stay here,” Jovie smiled.  “Grace’s mom wants to put up decorations this morning, and that includes us.”

We gathered up our purses and got ready to go.  Dexter seemed to breath a tiny sigh of relief when he heard that Raven was staying here.  Gigi, Blondie, Rochelle and I climbed into the back seat of the car.  Dexter joined us, and as Grace’s mom started driving, he looked deep in thought.

“Penny for your thoughts?” Rochelle asked softly in her French accent.

“Well, I’m having a lot of trouble finding a gift for Raven,” he admitted.  “She’s an amazing and compassionate and wonderful person, and I want to get her the perfect gift!  But I have no idea where to begin.  I want to get her a gift that’s….” he trailed off.

“…just right?” Blondie finished for him.

CAM00932.jpg“Yeah,” he smiled weakly.  “I don’t even know where to start.  What does Raven like?”

“Hmmmmm…” Gigi closed her eyes and thought.  “Well, I know she likes cute dresses!”

“I can’t buy a dress for her,” Dexter said defeatedly.  “I don’t know what she’d like, and I think that would be kind of weird.”

Rochelle’s eyes lit up.  “I know!  How about perfume?”

“Well, that’s nice, but that would be expensive.  And I don’t think Raven likes smelly stuff,” he sighed.

The car gave a jolt, and we pulled up into the Walmart parking lot.  Grace walked to the doll section, looked to make sure no one was around (the aisle was abandoned), then let us climb out of her purse quickly.  We looked around.  I examined some of the Barbie fashion packs.  My breath caught as I got an idea.

“Dex!” I called. “Look at this!”

Check in tomorrow to see the rest! 😀

  1. Great post, Holly! My WordPress reader missed this one, or I would have commented sooner! I love the Christmas sweaters y’all are wearing – and you’re a really great storyteller, Holly! Looking forward to reading the next part. 🙂
