You know what I think? I think it’s time for an EXTREME DOLL MAKEOVER (in my best t.v. announcer voice)!!!!!!!!!
Earlier today, I picked up a few extremely used Monster High Dolls (for an extremely good price), and the lady might have some more for me later! What could be better for a weekend project than giving some well-loved dolls a makeover?
Allow me to turn this over to our makeover team–Raven, Ashlynn, and Poppy!
“Hey, everyone! It’s Raven here, with Ashlynn and Poppy! We’re super excited to be the makeover team for these girls! But before we go any further, here are some “before” pictures, so you can see what our contestants looked like when they first walked into the Spring Hill Spa and Resort.”
Luckily, 13 Wishes Haunt the Casbah Clawdeen still had all the basic components of her outfit, as well as her shoes, and all of her gold accessories (except for her earring and headpiece). Her hair, however, was a MESS.
Art Class Robecca Steam was missing most of her accessories (no goggles 😦 ), but she did have her whole outfit and boots. Her hair had a bad case of the frizzies, and she had a blue mark below one eye.
13 Wishes Haunt the Casbah Draculaura had all outfit pieces, as well as all of her gold accessories, including the head piece! As with the other girls, however, her hair was basically the dictionary definition of a rat’s nest, and it also had a slightly sticky feel to it.
“When Poppy, Ashlynn, and I walked into the studio to meet the contestants, the smell made us reel! These girls had obviously lived their whole lives in a house filled with cigarette smoke, and you could detect the stench from six feet away. We knew what our first job was–giving these girls some major spa treatments and getting them smelling like flowers!”
“Here are the girls all wrapped up in some stylish spa dresses.”
“Poppy and I decided to go give their outfits a washing to get out the smell, while Ashlynn gives them a dunk in the jacuzzi. With that, I’ll turn it over to Ashlynn!”
“Hey, everyone! These poor girls could really use some help. First, we’re going to let them take a swim in the jacuzzi with some Palmolive soap, and then give them a massage with some tea tree oil wipes. Poppy’s going to have her work cut out for her with their hair later, so we decided to cut all rubber bands and remove all hair accessories while we give their hair a shampooing to remove the odor.”
“These girls are coming along great—but I wonder how their clothes are doing? Let’s switch over to Raven and Poppy, who have been trying to decide if their clothes can be salvaged!”
“Well, we washed the clothes in a round of Dawn, but I think they’re going to need something stronger to get out the last of the stench. Meanwhile, Poppy’s going to start on what will probably be the hardest part of this makeover: the hair!”
“Hey, viewers! This is Poppy, coming at you from Spring Hill Spa and Resort! Ashlynn did a great job making these girls’ bodies smell great, but I’ve got bigger problems–their hair. Even with a shampooing, it still stinks…and looks awful!”
“I think I’m going to need these.”
“On the other hand……
“……I think I’m going to need to bring out the big guns!”
“First we gave their hair a good brushing with a large comb, then we proceeded with a standard boil wash.”
“Here are the girls all drying after their boil washes…we gave them the key to some rooms here at the Spring Hill Spa and Resort, so that their hair could dry overnight.”
“The next morning, I gave their hair a comb-through with a very fine-toothed comb, and voila!”
“It looks awesome and completely frizz-free, but unfortunately, the odor is still there. So I decided to give them some heavy treatment with baking soda and vinegar. First, we massaged dry baking soda into their hair, getting down into the roots and all the way to the hairline.”
“Then we rinsed it with water. Next, we rinsed again with diluted vinegar, and finally, they got some conditioner and another rinse in cold water. At this point, the hair no longer had any odor and smelled great, but their faces still had some smoke smell remaining….So we gave them a spa mask made of baking soda mixed with a dash of water!”
“At last, the dolls were completely cigarette-smoke-free! For a final step, we curled their hair using DisneyBoy21’s awesome tutorial, using the doll’s stock photography and cartoon looks as reference.”
“Robecca got some ringlets, with a piece pulled over to make a little fringe.”
“Clawdeen got some curls, too, but for her we held two straws together instead of one, to make them bigger and looser. Draculaura’s stock photography shows it straight, with a small ponytail in the middle to add some volume. We did the ponytail, but curled the bottom with two straws held together, to make it more accurate to her look in the 13 Wishes TV special.”
“Meanwhile, Ashlynn and I have been washing the clothes! We originally washed the clothes in Dawn dish soap, but the smell was still there, so we washed them again with some Whisk laundry detergent. We also washed all of the shoes and accessories.”

What do you think? These were so fun to do, and I love taking trashed dolls and making them into something beautiful again. The hardest part was definitely getting the smell out of their hair, but it was so worth it!
Here are some more shots of these girls with restored hair and clothes!
Let me know what you think, and if you’d like to see more posts like this. 🙂
